Yermak and Guterres discuss protection of Ukrainian children



Andriy Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, held a meeting of the Coordinating Council for the Protection and Safety of Children in the form of a videoconference, with the participation of the Secretary General of the United Nations António Guterres, representatives of the United Nations structures , ambassadors from the G20 countries and ombudspersons for children.

“Our goal is to stop the forcible transfer or deportation of children from Ukraine to the Russian Federation and to take all necessary measures for their safe return and family reunification in accordance with the interests of the child and international law,” said the head of the president’s office. .

The UN Secretary-General, for his part, stressed that children should be with their families and those who care for them, and called for actions in the interests of children.

During the meeting, common actions were discussed, which can help stop the crimes of the Russian Federation against minor Ukrainian citizens.

Daria Herasymchuk, Ukrainian President’s Commissioner for Children’s Rights and Children’s Rehabilitation, noted that as of November 14, according to the state portal “Children of War”, 10,764 children had been deported to Russia since Ukraine.

Dmytro Lubinets, commissioner for human rights of the Verkhovna Rada, pointed out that the Russian authorities openly order the forced expulsion of Ukrainian children and facilitate by all means their “adoption” by the Russians.
