By India Today Web Desk: Russian President Vladimir Putin was seen firing a sniper rifle during a visit to a training center for armed personnel in Ryazan, southeast of Moscow. Putin’s personal show of force comes as Russia’s war in Ukraine enters a new phase with precise military strikes on Kyiv’s energy systems. Russian missile strikes have destroyed at least 30% of Ukrainian power plants in a week.
Video showed Putin lying under a net on a pitch, wearing goggles and hearing protection, firing a sniper rifle. He was also seen dusting off his overcoat, patting a soldier on the shoulder, and wishing him good luck.
The Russian president‘s visit to the training ground seemed intended to show his personal support for the soldiers who are about to join the war in Ukraine.
Putin was accompanied on the trip to Ryazan by Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, who explained to him how the men were trained, Reuters reported.
The visit came a day after Vladimir Putin lifted Russia’s war footing and declared martial law in four occupied regions of Ukraine which he moved to annex last month in a move condemned as illegal by the government. Ukraine, its allies and the United Nations General Assembly.
