Military expert Oleg Zhdanov said that despite Russian forces endangering the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, Ukrainian troops are not yet able to recapture it.
He explained: “We can’t get there yet – it’s time. The station still feeds our networks and is certified by the IAEA as a Ukrainian station.
“But in fact, the Russian administration is located at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant. The leadership of Russia is located there.
“Remember what they did first at the plant – they besieged four reactors at once to reduce power.
“Then, as a result of the hostilities, the substation was destroyed – two of the three lines leaving the station.
“They kept reducing the power of the reactors, arguing that there was nowhere to put electricity.
“The Russian Deputy Prime Minister said that ‘if Ukraine wants it, we will sell it electricity’.
“The “wish list” of Russian leaders is enormous. From then on, the questions of their management at the station are a matter of time, until the moment of dismissal.
“So let them want, let them try, and when we put the station back under our control, we’ll restore everything to how it was and how it should be.”
Ukrainian authorities report that Russian forces continue to shell the factory.
The president’s office urged the IAEA and the UN to ask Russia to withdraw from the site.
