The Project 636.3 Magadan submarine joins the Russian Navy – Military & Defense


ST. PETERSBURG, October 12. / TASS /. The Project 636.3 Magadan diesel-electric submarine joined the Russian Navy on Tuesday. The ensign of the Russian Navy, the flag of St. Andrews, was hoisted on the submarine.

The submarine Magadan was launched on November 1, 2019, floated on March 26 this year with a high degree of readiness (91%). The contract for the construction of the series was signed in September 2016.

The modified 636.3 series of six submarines were built at Admiralty JSC shipyards for the Russian Pacific Fleet. The first Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky submarine was delivered to the Russian Navy in December 2019, the second Volkhov submarine was launched in December 2019 and is currently undergoing sea trials by shipbuilders .

Project 636.3 submarines are considered one of the quietest submarines in the world. In length, it measures 74 meters, with a displacement of more than 3,900 tonnes and a working depth of 240 meters. Its maximum operating depth is 300 meters and its range is 7,500 miles.
