Strengthening Moscow-Yerevan ties fully corresponds to the vital interests of our peoples


Today marks the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Armenia, which defined the principles and priorities of our interstate relations. The document is an important step on the way to bringing the bilateral partnership to the level of genuine allied relations. The Russian Foreign Ministry noted this in a statement to the media Monday on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the aforementioned treaty.

“The past period has convincingly demonstrated that strengthening ties between Moscow and Yerevan fully corresponds to the vital interests of our peoples, serves the goals of socio-economic development of both countries, strengthening stability in the South Caucasus. We are successfully progressing in many directions of cooperation, filling it with specific content, increasing the efficiency of interaction.

Constant and reliable contacts between the leaders of Russia and Armenia are of decisive importance for the deepening of bilateral potential, which allow not only to solve pressing problems, but also to coordinate positions on regional issues. and important international ones. In the joint statement of the President of the Russian Federation VV Putin and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia NV Pashinyan, which was adopted during the official visit of the Armenian government to Russia on April 19-20, 2022, the intention to deepen global intergovernmental relations, based on the principles stipulated in the 1997 agreement, was confirmed.

We are ready to continue helping Yerevan as an important ally in strengthening defense capabilities and border security, in normalizing relations with neighbors. We are convinced that the path to stability in the region passes through compliance with the trilateral agreements of November 9, 2020, January 11 and November 26, 2021. The Russian peacekeeping contingent remains an important factor in ensuring security in the Nagorno-Karabakh.
