Russia is strengthening its defense lines in temporarily captured areas of Ukraine to prevent a rapid advance by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
On November 7, according to the adviser to the mayor of Mariupol, Petro Andryshchenko, the Russian occupiers began to build a line of defense around the city. were partially transported to Zaporizhzhia/Kherson.
On November 8, Russian ships carrying military goods entered the port of Mariupol. According to the port administration, they contain building materials, medicines for a military hospital and several hundred sets of Russian military uniforms.
The quality of military uniforms has been widely mocked, with Andryshchenko saying they are in worse condition than Ukrainian workers’ overalls.
According to Andryshchenko, factory workers are recruited in greater numbers in Mariupol for a “business trip” to the Kherson region to build fortifications. They are offered higher salaries and security in exchange for their services, with a view to creating seven or eight lines of defence.
Due to a lack of work in the city and in the factories of Mariupol, the number of applicants is increasing. Moreover, there is a risk that another wave of hidden mobilization will be launched by the Russian occupiers of the city.
Among other pressures facing the Mariupol residence, road traffic under Russian occupation has become a particular problem since the destruction of the Crimean Bridge. Cars would wait in traffic jams for up to three hours in the middle of a city equipped for 500,000 people, while only 130,000 currently live there.
On November 7, more than 1,500 fresh graves spanning three newly discovered sites were discovered near temporarily occupied Mariupol. According to the BBC, referring to satellite images, the graves were found in the areas of ancient Crimea, Mangush and Vynohradne near Mariupol. These are the mass cemeteries of Ukrainians killed by the Russian occupiers during the armed capture of the city.
