Grandmother killed 3 grandchildren, daughter with poison noodles: Police


A grandmother has admitted to killing her three grandchildren and her disabled daughter with a poisoned dinner, police said.

The incident happened in the southwestern Russian village of Aleksandrovka in December 2021, with investigators now releasing his confession after first believing the deaths were caused by the fact that the house was smeared with insect poison.

But the suspect, Lidia Viktorovna Shiryaeva, reportedly confessed to poisoning them.

The 49-year-old reportedly told the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Saratov region: “I knew that my husband had poison in the glove compartment of the car, and I started to prepare the dinner on the 11th.

“I asked my grandchildren what they wanted, they said milk noodles. Here in this pan I cooked milk soup, I took milk from the refrigerator, the noodles were in the cupboard and i added salt to taste when it was cooked.

“Then I put it next to the sink to cool the noodles. When everyone was distracted and not paying attention to me, I went out and brought a packet of poison, added it, stirred, put on a plate for the kids on the table, and gave it to my daughter at another table. I gave them these noodles.

Two of the young children were named Mikhail, 3, and Margarita, 5. They would have died immediately, along with a third child, an unnamed 7-year-old boy, who later died in intensive care. The disabled 23-year-old girl, believed to be the aunt of the children with cerebral palsy, also died in intensive care.

The father of the deceased children was named 27-year-old factory worker Alexander Shiryaev. He reportedly said he did not believe his mother could have committed the crimes.

The grandmother reportedly lost her unnamed husband a few months before the incident.

The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Saratov region said in a statement obtained by Zenger News: “A resident of Marksovsky district, accused of committing a crime against minors, at the request of the investigator, a coercive measure in the form of detention was chosen.

“According to the investigation, on December 11, 2021, a 49-year-old resident of the village of Aleksandrovka, Marksovsky district, Saratov region, while at her place of residence, with the aim of causing the death of her young grandchildren aged 3, 5, 7, as well as a disabled daughter aged 23, due to a sudden personal hostile relationship, she mixed a poisonous substance in her food. of the attacker, on December 13, 2021, the victims died.

“According to the conclusions of the forensic expertise, the death of the victims was caused by poisoning with an unknown substance.

“On December 13, 2021, the investigators of the Investigative Committee opened a criminal investigation into this fact. During the preliminary investigation, the investigators of the Investigative Committee carried out a large number of investigative acts and procedure, conducted a number of forensic examinations, including complex chemical and toxicological examinations at the federal state budget institution RC SME of the Ministry of Health.

“Following the evidence collected in the case, the 49-year-old malefactor wrote a confession. During the interrogation as a suspect, in addition to verifying the testimonies on the spot, the aggressor showed and recounted the circumstances of the crime, she repented of her act.

“The investigative authority filed a motion with the court to elect the accused as a coercive measure in the form of detention. After considering the motion and the evidence presented by the investigation, the court accepted the arguments of the accused. investigative authority, by choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention in respect of the accused.

“Investigative actions are underway to establish all the circumstances of the incident and establish the evidence.”

Russian authorities said the criminal investigation was ongoing.
